A solid start to the series!
I think they do a great job establishing Kate Kane and her backstory, especially in tying to her to Batman mytho without making her just a female Bruce Wayne, or making the story all about Batman. She stands on her own as a protagonist with a unique point of view and new supporting characters (which is something that I think the Batwoman TV show struggles with).
The art beautifully sets the tone of book, and they do a lot of interesting things with the panel layouts.
4/5 stars, thoroughly enjoyed this first volume, my expectations were met, but was not blown away. They set up some very interested plot threads and I'm interested to see where they go!
A very interesting start to a new series. I hope that they will be able to develop some depth without too much direct linkage to Batman
Batwoman got her own ongoing series at the launch of the New-52 Universe. This first volume reintroduces all the major players in her series and Kate's mission against crime. Some of the most beautiful art in the entire New-52 line.
Been reading comics for 45+ years and graphic novels since they came out BUT these new 52's are some of the BEST yet. Keep them coming DC!
I just started reading DC's new 52. Out of the few I've read so far this one is by far the best. The art, story, & character are awesome. While I am not a big fan of her character for personal reasons, Batwoman this time around has my interest. Be warned though this as well as the 5 or so other 'new 52'titles I've read are mature reads.
I loved the mythology element, especially La Llarona. Who knew dripping water could hold such menace?
