Still reading it at the moment, but its making me incredibly sad. Surprised I don't see that more in the comments, really hoping for some closure at the end.
Very well done. Things got going early on in the book, some people may have guess on what happens others do not. I think it was very well written and a good simple mystery.
Read this for last month's Book Club read. It was interesting though fairly predictable. I too was able to guess "what was what" and "who was who" pretty early on, as other reviewers have mentioned.
All in all, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an easily read distraction <3
I couldn't put this book down. The author's writing style was really good and I was hooked the whole time into the story. A mom's daughter has been missing for years and something about her new boyfriend's family has her thinking about the past.
Whenever people say that they read something in one day I wonder what type of superhuman reader they are and also, how do I get free time like that to read ALL DAY? And then I read this in one day so I finally understand. All in it was probably 5 hours of reading on a cold and snowy Sunday. I gave it 3 stars because I wanted to read it all day, it was catchy and interesting. It lost 2 stars because it was so predictable, and I was disappointed that I predicted it. It wasn't predictable from page one, but relatively early I was putting the pieces together. I was waiting to be surprised, I wanted a twist! This is a super easy read, my family was watching TV and I was sitting there reading beside them not even distracted. Or maybe the book is so catchy that you get absorbed in it? Either way, good easy read.
I would recommend this book for the following things: Getting back into reading if you are in a slump; on vacation and want something easy; or like me, just coping with February weather in Canada and want to sit inside and be engrossed in a good book :) Totally not worth buying but if you get a copy from the Library then you will be satisfied.
A very easy read with some interesting twists and turns. I found that it lacked depth though... and was quite predictable.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, and although it had a mystery/thriller element to it, I think I would classify it more as domestic fiction, but overall it was quite enjoyable. The characters were engaging and the plot was well-done, but parts of the story were heartbreaking. I have to admit that this book made me cry! I will definitely be reading more titles by this author.
What happened to you Ellie?
This was a great book! As I was reading it I actually felt like the author made me feel like I was in the book. It was definitely a good read.
Fun twisty mystery, ala Gone Girl, etc. Appropriately creepy baddies, and a middle aged (55 yo) protagonist (which is a nice change from the long string of thirtysomething protagonists in this sort of title ). Good fun!
Loved this book. Felt very connected to all the characters. Couldn't put it down!
My first book by this author and I am hooked! I couldn’t put this down and immediately put the rest of her books on hold. A bit of a sad story, but very riveting.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is intriguing and the story line was compelling - hard to put down.
I can't believe how long I waited for this book and then--YUCK. We have all read books that bounce around, introduce new people and we adjust, figure it out and go on. The plot or description on the jacket is great. The actual book is looney tunes; I'm sure her lead character changes names or switches places with someone else and it's as tossed about as a salad. The author herself felt she had written a bizarre story and that a couple of editors rescued it. Had I bought it I would have tossed it in the garbage before finishing it; as it is, finishing it can not redeem the amount of junk I did read.
This book was great, gripping, fast moving and interesting. Highly recommended!
When I picked up this book (expecting a Halloween chilly mystery, for some fear), I was not expecting it to be as horrid as I found it. The plot was so intriguingly written but it made me question how the author could have came up with something so... sinister. I felt genuinely taken aback, despite all the positive things this book had to offer. I recommend reading this if one has a high tolerance for emotional "wrongness," as it is quite questionable if the characters' acts can be forgiven.

While I enjoyed the character development part of this book, I found the ending to be very predictable. I wanted to quit reading less than halfway through but finished it just to make sure I was correct.
A pleasing take on the child has gone missing trope - I truly enjoyed the narrator and her point of view, as well as the other character developments. A reflection on life's choices, or rather the choices in responding to life events, it was engaging and a solid read. Although there were some moments of strained credulity, the ending was quite enjoyable in its own way. I definitely recommend!
Absolutely chilling. I read page 267 and had to put my tablet down and walk away for a while. It sent chills down my spine.
This was my first novel I've read by Lisa Jewell, but will now read all the others. If you like thrillers that stay with you long after you've finished the book, then read this one - I thought it was awesome.
My first Lisa Jewel book... will look for more. I figured out the main plot early on...so sad. But was suspenseful and kept me reading.
The author keeps you guessing throughout the novel, although I was pretty darn close to figuring out the ending half way through, but there are still a few surprises at the end.
A teen disappearance, murder, lies, it keeps you guessing.
