Add a CommentThis was the first movie I ever saw with my soon-to-be intended. It is a story about friendship and love and destiny. What a perfect film to see with the person you're going to spend your life with.
I have rented this movie from the movie store twice and well I love it so much that I thought I would rent it again but this time from here. The store is so sweet and the art that is put into it has so much detail that it takes my breath away every time.
This movie is so cute and even a bit deeper than some other movies I've seen. The lesson of love in this story is beautiful, and when Sosuke cries because he can't find his mom even though he's valiantly searching...it tugs your heart-strings. A unique and breathtaking movie. It's not my fave of Miyazaki, but it's definitly the best in that sea/magic/love/earthy genre. 5 stars!
I watched the trailer of the Ponyo movie. When the boy saw how beautiful little goldfish on the cup and she fainted, and she is alive now like Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2 book and the movie.
Definitely a movie to watch with subtitles so you catch every word. A lot of the plot development is subtle and easy to miss. The first time watching it I was completely lost. But Hayao Miyazaki definitely doesn't disappoint with this film: every scene is absolutely gorgeous.

Hayao Miyazaki is a brilliant director. Ponyo is so well done. Beautifully animated and a joy to watch. A must see for all.
Really CUTE! It was really sweet, and it kind of appealed to me like a studio ghibli version of the little mermaid.
if u luv da lil mermaid, then u'll luv diz version of a studio ghibli flim version of it........luv ponyo.
love it have it everyone must see them all. but with this film i have to say felt to rushed not like the other miyazaki films.
Comparing this to most Disney's version of "A Little Mermaid", the lead character of "Ponyo" is, to me, a much needed update on a female role model for little girls. Miyazaki's films always have strong female leads, and it is obvious that he really respects women. I found this film very charming and entertaining, even for adults. The animation is beautiful. There is a very imaginative and creative Japanese touch, which may be difficult to appreciate if you are not used to any Japanese popular culture. But I think it's good to let children see that there is more out there to learn from than our typical American Disney-influenced movies. Why not?
Some scary moments for the 3 year old crowd, but overall a really sweet story for those who want a change from the World of "Typical" Disney Films...
Its alright, the animation is awesome, but I prefer some of the other studio ghibli films over this one.
The copy of this DVD is so scratched that I am unable to view it at all. Hope the library is able to fix it/replace it! --Ginny
