One of the best mermaid story versions that was made! even better than the little mermaid!
This is a super cute movie. Great for age 6+ Best animation for kids to date 2011
It's beautiful and the animation is magnificent. The story is simple but because of the imagery the story became more than that.
Even though this movie is for kids it has better plot than most movies for kids.(cough) barbie... This was much better than I expected.
Not really aimed at Adults. Would be enjoyed more by a younger audience. Different take on The Little Mermaid.
An adorable "Little Mermaid" story about a boy who befriends a mermaid. Very memorable. <3
Beautiful animation and Ponyo is super cute! However, this is definitely much more of a children's movie than I was expecting. There wasn't really any plot and the plot that was there made no sense! We were left scratching our heads. It would have been nice if some of the characters (like Ponyo's father) had been developed more as we never find out how he came to live that life.
Overall, not as good as the other reviews had me expecting.
I loved this film! It totally shows the purity and innocence of a child, made me awe, lots! :)
I love Miyazaki's films, and I couldn't wait to find out why the fish would be hiding under a contact lens. I think that it's fun and exciting, and inspires a kind of wonder that Disney rarely achieves. I think it's very in tune with children's sensibilities while still having lots to offer more mature viewers.
I loved this movie! It even kept my 10 month old occupied for most of it! The animation is great and love how everything about it is still Japanese like the names and myths etc.
Cute movie. The animation is absolutly brillant! Although it's not my favorite Studio Ghibli film i still enjoyed it.
Loved this movie! Ponyo is so cute. The voice acting is great in English I usually prefer the Japanese.
Nice little film, a bit more Disney than some of the other Studio Ghibli films, but nice. I like that it's two young children exploring a version of the little mermaid story, as opposed to trying to transform a tranditional story into the Disney template. And NO princesses means that it's not an automatic boy repellant. My kids are still singing the theme song and loved the story.
A very beautiful and somewhat liberal adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's, The Little Mermaid, by the creative genius who also gave us Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. My 9-year-old daughter actually became a fan of ham after watching this film ("Since when do you like ham?" I asked. She shrugged and gave me a sheepish grin. "I'm like Ponyo," she replied). Of course!!
Beautifully drawn, with a slightly mysterious plot, but the plot isn't really the issue in Miyazake's films. A great 'ride of the Valkyries' sequence!
This is a awesome film. Although it is not my favorite Hayano Miyazaki film, it is so imaginative and the graphics are so beautiful. Although this film targeted towards children, it is most definitely enjoyable for all ages (even adults).
Fair – Ponyo (2009) 101 min. Hayao Miyazaki is an animation genius painting incredibly detailed and colourful landscapes to accentuate the plot. I loved watching this film for its artistic beauty and some of the heartfelt character developments that will surely pull on your heartstrings. What I didn’t appreciate was some of the plot points which included fantastic possibilities that defied the natural order of things. I understand its fantasy but a good fantasy still maintains relatable notions and ideas. Though for most of the film the plot is easy to follow, the story takes a nose dive making the conclusion almost incomprehensible.
