This book was very different from other books that I've read by Richard Paul Evans, as I've not read other historical fiction novels by him. The story revolves around two main characters - a young woman from Ireland who came to America during the potato famine and a man who was a gambler who traveled The West during the Gold Rush. Both characters have a past that they are running from. There are times when the characters are so stubborn that they would continue in a painful life apart rather than take a chance at love.
