Paul Keller was enjoying a vacation in the Rocky Mountains with his girlfriend Lucky Smith when his estranged son called begging for help. Paul and Lucky arrive at Matt's appartment only to find a body on the floor and Matt long gone. Lucky's daughter, Constable Molly Smith of the Trafalgar City Police, abandons her chaotic Thanksgiving kitchen to offer her mom support. She has no intention of meddling in the police investigation, but when Matt's sad, shy girlfriend, Tracey, asks for her help, Molly finds herself not only interfering but putting herself on the wrong side of RCMP Sgt. Edward Blechta.

The continuing growth of Molly Smith as she becomes a better detective even though she is still a police officer. Paul Keller, Molly's boss and her mother Lucy play prominent roles in this novel as does Matt the estranged son who is suspected of murder. John Winters plays a lesser role as he investigates activists protesting the building of a large resort.
A very good police procedural and another enjoyable read.

I love the Constable Molly Smith series! This latest book is excellent and is set in both Trafalgar, BC and Banff, with some environmental issues on the forefront. I do have a couple of questions. Where did the book title come from? Where is the cold stone? And why did Molly do what she did near the end, which effectively allowed one of the bad guys to get away? Yes, she's a uniform and not a detective, but still, she's done some good detective work in the past. That "slip" just doesn't make sense to me. I do still love the series and look forward to the next book, but would like a bit more...
