"Seven years ago, Terry Archer and his family experienced a horrific ordeal that nearly cost them their lives. Today, the echoes of that fateful night are still audible. Terry's wife, Cynthia, is living separate from her husband and daughter after her own personal demons threatened to ruin her relationship with them permanently. Their daughter, Grace, is rebelling against her parents' seemingly needless overprotection. Terry is just trying to keep his family together. And the entire town is reeling from the senseless murder of two elderly locals. But when Grace foolishly follows her delinquent boyfriend into a strange house, the Archers must do more than stay together. They must stay alive. Because now they have all been unwillingly drawn into the shadowy depths of their seemingly idyllic hometown. For there, they will be reconnected with the man who saved their lives seven years ago, but who still remains a ruthless, unrepentant criminal. They will encounter killers for hire working all sides. And they will learn that there are some things people value much more than money, and will do anything to get it. Caught in a labyrinth between family loyalty and ultimate betrayal, Terry must find a way to extricate his family from a lethal situation he still doesn't fully comprehend. All he knows is that to live, he may have to do the unthinkable..."--

Slow, Slow confusing start, but I kept going. Midway is when it got interesting and a little more understanding of it. The other authors reviews on the back of the book, well, the ending was partially expected but not such a twist like I thought.
Barclay has had good books, this one was not bad....

Absolutely loved this book!!! Could not put it down! This was the first book I've read by Linwood Barclay, but it definitely will not be the last. A fantastic read!

Another exciting book by Barclay

I've read most of Linwood Barclay's novels, but "No SAFE HOUSE" will be the last one I read. I had high expectations, because I did enjoy "No Time For Goodbye", and this one is somewhat of a follow up to that one, 7 years later. I know that his novels, this one included, has too many characters involved in the plots. OK, I get it..it is fiction, but in these small towns, it isn't realistic that so many people could or would be involved. The sloppiness of the writing put this novel over the top. The novel time frame happens in the summer months. The main character (Terry) is a high school teacher, and in the early part of the novel, there is a reference that he has the summer off, but yet on page 226, on his rush back to his house to protect Grace, he has to stop for a school bus with flashing lights, letting kids cross the street in the early morning..Were they going to summer school ????? Never AGAIN!!
Time to go back to James Patterson. He's a great writer, and at least his thrillers are much more believable than any of Linwood Barclay's novels.

Best book I have read for some time.

I enjoyed the main character's development from a steady family man, living in a peaceful town, to dealing with the domino effect of his daughter's erroneous decision to take a joyride.

Although some events seem a bit unrealistic, the author seamlessly weaves the plot—with its many twists and turns—with a straightforward, easy to read, style of writing.

This is a 'must-read' for those who enjoy entertaining stories of ordinary people caught in unforeseen situations and the decisions they must live with in the end to feel safe.

I had high hopes for this title when I heard that it was a sequel to "No Time for Goodbye" (which I consider to be one of the best thrillers that I've ever read). Unfortunately, in the end I was left underwhelmed by this book. The one dimensional and unlikeable characters and an unrealistic and convoluted plot made for a disappointing read by an author I used to consider a safe bet.
