Add a CommentDespair in Monterey. Wonderfully written and acted.
The womens pov as written and directed by a man -- what a unique concept. Why didn't anyone else think of having a man explain how a woman feels. Obviously, only a man can understand -- write and direct --how a woman feels about domestic violence and sexual assault. The ending of this series is the way a man would solve the problem -- through violence. really surprised the writer didn't figure out a way to have a subplot about a mexican drug cartel with graphic scenes of torture.
There are So few women directors because the Hollywood/T.V. celebration of violence can only be fully realized by a man. Next real life shoot out -- admit you love it America
acting excellent of course. story went on and on but the ending was good. the music throughout the series was good.
Some twisted lives behind the pretty surfaces. Amazing performances.
I just finished watching this - and wow, was it good! Sometimes book adaptions aren't that great, but this was terrrific. I wasn't sure if I would like the change of venue from Australia, but the Monterey peninsula can't be beat for views. The acting was great - but be warned there is graphic depictions of sexual violence that might be a little off-putting for some.
Phenomenal. All actors deserve Emmys for their performances, particularly Nicole Kidman. I have heard that a second season is in the works, despite the author not writing a sequel to the book.
chick flicks with epic finale
I binge watched this mini-series. I was initially attracted by all the big names actors performing together.
I enjoyed the storytelling and how these interviews built up the suspense before we know exactly what crime has transpired. My opinions of these characters changed over the episodes and I really liked that. It told me that the characters were three-dimensional and complex enough for me to care about. There were a few that I didn't feel that way about but overall, especially toward the end, I was watching each episode with increasing interest.
I've read Moriarty's work previously. I didn't read the eponymous book but the series struck me as darker than her work. It still had the humor that she includes and the combination was successful.
