A nice and true story inspired by the childhood of real-life astronaut Chris Hadfield. In this story, you will learn that as a kid, Chris used to be very afraid of the dark, until he was able to overcome this fear in order to fulfill his dream of becoming an astronaut.

I picked up The Darkest Dark because I saw The Fan Brothers on the cover, and I am in love with their gorgeous art style and color palettes. I was pleasantly surprised by the story inside and that its based off of the true inspiring life of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. This story is full of hopes and fears, imagination and fulfillment. It's lovely and it's real, both to life and to the overwhelming magnitude of childhood dreams.

Incredible things happen when we overcome our fears. Sometimes, we can even touch the stars.

This book is about an astronaut who did not like to go to sleep and didn't want to take showers. This is very unusual because he is different from other people, not everyone's the same. Some people can be special but in their own way. He couldn't sleep in his room because it is very dark and he is also afraid of having an encounter with an alien! Chris Hadfield actually went to space which makes this book so much more realistic. This is a very interesting book, you should definitely read it. As he mentioned in the book sometimes dreams can come true, I don't want to give it all way so to find out more you should borrow this book. Rating 5/5

My little guy got this for Christmas from his grandparents, and it's so lovely. It's a quiet, true tale of a young boy who's afraid of the dark and longs to be an astronaut; after witnessing the moon landing on a tv one summer night in cottage country, his life changes.

The story is cute (and possibly therapeutic for sleep-deprived parents), but the illustrations are what really make this gem. Adorably spooky aliens lurk in a dreamy twinkling twilight, and dreams are vividly rendered. My son savours each page. Highly recommended to any picture book-aged kids, and especially to those who love space or are scared of the dark.

Interesting story about the dark (fabulous realistic illustrations-love the pug!) has a twist at the end when the main character watches the moon landing - this picture book is suddenly historical fiction! Wait it's actually suddenly a biography about Astronaut Chris Hadfield, who uses the vast darkness of outer space to overcome the more manageable darkness of his bedroom. Cool book.

Really neat picture book, especially because it was written by a Canadian astronaut remembering his childhood. Lovely illustrations.

The dark is for dreams -- and morning is for making them come true.
