I enjoyed this book as we finally get to meet the Lord of the Night, Marsila's maker. He is the reason for Wulfe being almost insane. Stefan was also a member of his court in Italy. I love this series, an the Alpha wolf series that intermingle their characters, and storylines. I hope she does a book with Asil the werewolf as the main character someday.

I always rave about this author. Still brilliantly engaging characters, tense drama, well-crafted violence, and hilarious situations.

Fast moving, full of fun and hard excitement.
Most of the regular cast is here, fortunately without the over-familiarity and boredom a long running series often generates.

Another great book in the Mercy Thompson series. This series is always action packed and has numerous twists and turns. I look forward to the next book.

A new Mercy Thompson book is like visiting with an old friend. In this adventure Mercy finds new trouble in Europe through no fault of her own. See if you can figure out that twist at the end. I can't believe there are only two more books in this series!

A wonderful addition to the series...More character development & understanding of the global monsters. Honey, Pete widow kicks ass , the Goblin King watches Adams back & is good at keeping secrets.

ADAM dealing with European vampires machinations is like walking on a tightrope, though I like how he handles dishes...grin The Blade & the Soldier indeed.

Course Coyote had sent Mercy brother to help the water during World War but to get the job done, it is best to send MERCY !

I still miss the FAE walking stick though..SIGH

For the first time, Patricia Briggs takes her characters far afield from their Tri-Cities home, with Mercy eventually finding herself in Prague, the territory of an old wolf who has a long-standing feud with the Marrok. Mercy also discovers that the Old Country is rife with ghosts, clamouring for the attention of a walker. Briggs employs dual timelines, switching perspectives between Mercy and Adam. Briggs also used this device briefly in Frost Burned, the seventh book in the series, in which Adam and the pack disappeared, and Mercy was hunting for them. Here, however, the technique is used throughout the book, and the two timelines are not synchronized. As a result, Briggs introduces each chapter with a blurb in Mercy’s voice that clarifies when events are taking place, and how they relate to the other chapters. It is somewhat awkward, but serves well enough to keep the reader oriented, especially as Adam and Mercy converge later in the book.

I don't know why Vampires and Zombies are thrown in with sci-fi. They have nothing in common with science at all. Shouldn't they be under the Fantasy heading?

Patricia Briggs takes us on a fascinating trip in this installment of her Mercy Thompson series. I was expecting another novel dealing with the fae, but this one dealt with a thread that had been dangling for a while - the vampires of Europe. I don't know how I would fare if I was kidnapped and dropped in a foreign country (not to mention dealing with terrifying vampires and supernatural politics), but Mercy handles it with her usual resilience. What was truly unexpected was reading from Adam's perspective. We'd only had short glimpses of his point of view in previous novels, so this was a wonderful surprise. I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next, and where Mercy and Adam will go.

To say that Mercy is a magnet for trouble would be an understatement. After being magnificently back-stabbed by her step-daughter in an online game of pirates, Mercy moves to the kitchen to make some of her famous chocolate chip cookies, only to find that the werewolves have eaten most of her cookie-making supplies. On her way back from the corner store, her vehicle is rammed, she's drugged, taken hostage, and flown to Italy where the Lord of the Night - leader of the European vampires and Stephen's former master - wants to know why she is the most dangerous person in the tri-cities.

What follows will be chases and escapes, foreign packs, cobblestone streets that are hard on coyote paws and an adventure only made better by the alternating narrators. Yes - this book follows both Mercy and Adam as they try to reconnect and prevent a war between Europe and North America in the process. It was great fun to see the cast and characters from Adam's perspective and to also get a glimpse of his regard for Mercy, whose own opinion of herself never truly reflects what a heroine she is.

I could not have asked for a more enjoyable book. I love the inherent humor of Brigg's writing - especially in the mini descriptors at the beginning of each chapter. Another great addition to the series. For fans of Ilona Andrews.

In Night Broken, Adam and Mercy declared the Tri-Cities pack territory, and a neutral zone under their protection. Since then, they have successfully defended that claim against the Fae in Fire Touched, proving that they can keep their word. But it seems the challenges are not over, because Mercy is kidnapped not far from home, and the purpose of taking her seems to be to prove the weakness of the Tri-Cities alliance. In coyote form, Mercy manages to escape her attackers, ending up alone and on the run in Europe. With their mating bond silenced by the great distance between them, Adam gathers a group of their allies, and heads to Europe in pursuit of Mercy.
