Slimkat the Bushman's life is being threatened, and Tannie Maria is determined to find out who wants to kill him. Add to the mix that Tannie Maria is also trying to overcome her own hang-ups in love with her boyfriend, the rugged detective Lieutenant Henk Kannymeyer, and - for the first time in her life - to go on a diet. There is no shortage of conundrums personal and professional for an amateur sleuth to confront in this delightful, warm-hearted sequel to Sally Andrew's "Recipes for Love and Murder."

I agree with most of what has been said in the previous reviews. I actually decided to give it a read because I have some South African friends. I was able to get them to interpret the local language. A light read with a loving & soft feel that was pleasant to experience. Well done Sally Andrew.

I picked this one up by name. I enjoy mysteries and in a foriegn country I thought I would also learn new things. This is true, including learning some Africaan which is scattered liberally throughout (I kept a translation app open for that). I liked the characters. I enjoyed the sdifferent cultural feeling, however, there is a component of PTSD and a group sharing their experiences as a healing process. The vivid descriptions, through the stories told, of terrorism, torture, and death were very hard to read. I know these things are real, but one isn't often faced wiht an individual character relating their own story so graphically and so painfully. Be aware

What a wonderful surprise this book was! I read murder mysteries - they are my go-to-bed-relaxers. I generally read cozys or, at least, women (not so likely to be gory). Just grabbed this off the shelf -woman, humorous cover - okay. It is a treat on so many levels - language, culture, food/recipes and most of all - the psychology of it all --- pure magic.
