I thought the book was awesome, but I was surprised that they were both pretty nice to the bully.

This book tries to be some sort of horror/sci-fi novel for kids but honestly, the subject matter is just too serious. The story itself could have been alright (even if it did seem a little simplistic) but when you are talking about superbugs and overpopulation, it hits pretty close to home. The descriptions of the symptoms of touching the "fuzzy mud" (it thrives on organic matter so guess what happens to your skin?) is rather gruesome as well. I loved the Wayside School books and Holes but this is not up to par for Sachar.

This book had a nice amount of realism and fiction. The ending was a bit surprising but appreciated. I enjoyed it and I recommend.

This book was pretty good. I liked the length and the ending. It is really interesting with this new fuel, etc. Recommend it.

Lost in the forest. Chased by a bully. You throw fuzzy mud in his face. What is happening to your hand?

It switches half ways through to a mock documentary style book. Even though the bully was a focal point, he did receive justice and also become sympathetic later on. The other two main characters were likeable enough. The girl being the brave, good girl and the boy being fearful but coming around in the end. Good suspense as to what will happen, I would have liked it more if stuck to telling the story and not switching styles halfways through. It removes you out of the story, instead of you being immersed.
