"World War Two is over, but the recovery from the most intimate of its horrors has only just begun for Annaliese Lange, a German ballerina desperate to escape her past, and Simone Deveraux, the wronged daughter of a French Resistance spy. Now the two women are joining hundreds of other European war brides aboard the renowned RMS Queen Mary to cross the Atlantic and be reunited with their American husbands. Their new lives in the United States brightly beckon until their tightly-held secrets are laid bare in their shared stateroom. When the voyage ends at New York Harbor, only one of them will disembark ... Present day. Facing a crossroads in her own life, Brette Caslake visits the famously haunted Queen Mary at the request of an old friend. What she finds will set her on a course to solve a seventy-year-old tragedy that will draw her into the heartaches and triumphs of the courageous war brides--and will ultimately lead her to reconsider what she has to sacrifice to achieve her own deepest longings."--

Excellent book- it takes place in San Diego and mentions familiar places along CA. This author is so great at telling multiple stories that tie at the end. This is an easy read and makes you grateful for what we all now have.

A Bridge Across the Ocean follows the stories of three women in a Europe ravaged by war. Two will embark on the RMS Queen Mary as war brides at the end of WWII. Their fate is the mystery Brette must unravel to find her own peace. I loved the interwoven perspectives, and the strength of the women facing both the challenges of the war and the immigration process.

I really liked this book and the author. The story takes place in France, Germany & Belgium during World War II and then is also told from present day. It is historical fiction about the ship, The Queen Mary, and the voyage from England to America with War Brides. We learn the backgrounds of the two main characters, their experiences during the war and how they got to the ship and it's sailing. There are a lot of twists and turns.

The present day story character has a "unique ability" --- which is how she uncovers the story of the Queen Mary and the war brides.

I love the way the author ties all the characters and their stories together at the conclusion.
