"Elvira Carr believes in crisp schedules, clear guidelines, and taking people at face value. She lives at home with her overbearing mother, who has deemed her unfit to interact with the rest of society. But when her mother has a stroke, Ellie is suddenly forced to look after herself. She quickly comes up with an ingenious way of coping with the world: the seven social rules spreadsheet. Unfortunately, Ellie soon discovers that most people don't live their lives within a set of rules. As she experiences social missteps and awkward encounters, Ellie continues to learn - about herself, and the people around her. And she'll need this new knowledge if she hopes to pave the way to living life on her own terms."--

A sensitive treatment of an Asberger's individual. There is some humor in it, but nothing like the self-conscious, almost slapstick, humor of Simsion's treatment of the protagonist in the " Rosie" series. This novel shines a light on much of greater society's reaction to such individuals. As an older brother to a sister with multiple challenges, I long ago recognized our failure to treat her and others with her differences and innocent approach to people with anything like compassion or even acceptance. A nice read, even for those without my personal sort of experience.

A book about the complexity of human nature and the challenges this presents for someone living with Asperger's. I found the main character very intriguing and was really hoping she would succeed. As well as being very entertaining, I feel it's enlightened me about what life must be like for someone living with autism.

Maynard has drawn a very endearing character navigating a strange, exciting, intimidating world populated with kind, as well as predatory people. I highly recommend this read. It has witty humor, pathos, and wisdom.

An excellent and engaging story about a young adult woman with autism navigating the world on her own, exposing how we are all in need of grace and encouragement. Highly recommend.
