The English village mystery gets a contemporary spin in this hit British television series that has earned a worldwide following. Bucolic settings harbor macabre crimes and eccentric characters that are no match for DCI John Barnaby and his assistant, DS Charlie Nelson. When the corpse of an elderly man disappears from his deathbed, Barnaby and Nelson find themselves on the hunt for a serial body-snatcher.

This current crop of episodes have lost all the camp humour of the past shows and frankly, without that, it's just another cop show, albeit set in the beautiful countryside. As well as being more serious, there is an emphasis on lovely manor homes and better cinematography. I'd still rather have the quirkiness of the past, like the ones where the John Nettles Inspector Tom Barnaby was served cannabis brownies by the elderly lady wearing too much makeup.

Does anyone really care "who dunnit" in these shows? I only watch to see good actors slumming. The real mystery is how they get them to do these shows. I bet the salary for a guest star is sizable. Without the guest stars, I doubt many people, at least certainly not in the UK, would watch these.

There is nothing about Midsomer Murders that can be called fun. That is, if we have Neil Dudgeon and Gwiyn Lee as the lead. When it was Tom and Joyce and Cally and Troy or Jones there was some levity to their characters. The writers of the 6 episodes of Series 18 have succeeeded in presenting the worst of human relationships in the most unappetizing ways. Also, the current British television programming has turned politically correct to a fault. Someone name me one thing good about these episodes with Neil Dudgeon as Chief Inspector Barnaby.

Another great Midsomer Murders DVD, really enjoyed the mysteries, never could figure how Barnaby solves them at the end.

DCI Barnaby's cousin in charge now. Still great show, weird as ever, tho can't help but miss old cast. Series 18 more ethnically diversified. New young female British/Indian medical examiner is wonderful.

I have loved this British TV mystery series since it was first broadcast in 1997. I preferred the earlier Inspector Barnaby and his sergeant more than the latest ones, but they are all well worth viewing if you are a fan of British television productions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Kristi & Abby Tabby
