Roughly 2 hours of fan service -- a patchwork of "wouldn't it be cool if X did or said Y", regardless of whether Y contributes to a coherent tone or narrative -- and half an hour of interesting moments. Pretty disappointing coming from Rian Johnson (I strongly recommend 'Looper', if you're interested in watching a more successful science fiction film from this writer/director).

Major portions of the plot are absurd (the whole codebreaker subplot makes no sense at all -- sneaking into a space ship is like sneaking into a submarine; how, exactly, do Finn and Rose get away from the Rebel ship that's being hotly pursued, fly to an entirely other star system, try to find a James-Bond-esque superspy, go to jail, hook up with a shady character, fly back to the ongoing pursuit...I'm just going to stop now because every single element of this is silly). There used to be a basic understanding that stars and planets are really, really far apart, and some gestures towards the notion that it would take time to get from one to another; now characters hop from one star system to another as if they were driving between neighborhoods. I know that this is space opera, the most loosey-goosey of science fiction subgenres, but the earlier movies weren't so cavalier about it and were more engaging as a result. It's hard to connect with the emotional circumstances when the physical reality is so unreal.

I appreciate giving prominent roles to women and POC. I just wish the substance of the movie was as good as its (real world) cultural politics.

Too many plot holes and comedic relief.

I watched the first 15 minutes and that was it for me. It seemed that I was watching a cartoon more than anything else.

Enjoyed movie, but more of a vehicle to farewell the elder characters and introduce the new ones.
Lots of unanswered questions - Obi Wan & Skywalker needed years of apprenticeship & training to become Jedi, and Ren seem to get her abilities by instinct...
Can't wait for Episode 9 - who are Ren's parents, why was she really abandoned; will Kyo Ren turn to the light, and if so who will be the villain...

Nice entertainment. Could watch again (in similar manner to previous episodes).

Why! Why, must Disney ruin everything! Ugghhh! Let's start with my favorite parts of this movie. Luke slapping Rey with grass, and the Porgs. Yep that is it.
Now the rest is crap. My least favorite parts were any scene with Laura Dern. Also There is way to much PROFANITY!!! There is only 1 swear word in all of the first 6 movies. Force Awakens and Last Jedi have to much language.
Again, like Force Awakens, there is copying off of a Star Wars movie, not as much but still there. The law of the force(and physics actually, bombs falling in zero gravity) are ignored and characters are freely using the force. Rey only has ONE DAY of training, and they make her look like she is perfect.
Let me sum it up. If you liked this movie, you are not a true Star Wars fan.
Of COURSE this has been tagged as offensive, someone didn't like the truth.

Great cast, great SFX. Although there were some unnecessary parts, I still enjoyed this spectacular eight film in the Star Wars franchise.

What an absolute piece of garbage cinema. They wasted such good opportunities on this mess of a film.

The bird creatures (Porgs) were cute. The acting was alright. The directing was choppy and lacked the Star Wars essence.
