Add a CommentA World War ll story of a concert violinist and the man who loved her through time and space. It explained how the Nazis came to power and the Jews and many Germans didn't see what was coming until it was too late. I don't generally like time travel stories, but the main part of the story was compelling enough I had to read it to completion.
ok
I read this as a cautionary tale about America today. On the surface its about the failure of non-jewish, non-Nazi Germans to appreciate the danger Hitler posed to the German state until it was too late. These Germans were disgusted with the policies and actions of the Nazi's but continued to live their ordinary lives, did not take any action to resist and closed their eyes and ears to the ever increasing atrocities. Let us not forget that Hitler came to power through democratic election.
This book deserves all the big adjectives like sweeping, epic and devastating. Hanna and Max's story is told in such an engaging way. It is historical fiction with a little sci fi, a lot of violin and an epic love story. My favorite from Cantor so far.
