A modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott's novel. The story details to the passage from childhood to womanhood of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy who are all sisters. A different version for sure! Being set in modern times was jarring in my mind with the other editions I've seen. I'm not sure the modern setting worked as some of the main themes of the time around gender inequality and poverty were lost.

I loved this movie! Wonderful story of the March sisters. I highly recommend this movie edition after reading the book. The movie starring Katherine Hepburn in 1933 was good too.

Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Louisa May Alcott's literary classic, this version retains many of the nuances of the original work (ex. Castles in the Air), while updating the tale of sisterly love for modern audiences (ex. instead of society balls, there is a spring Prom). The narrative jumps back and forth to capture many hallmark moments (celebrations and heartbreaks), and may seem jarring to viewers not familiar with the original piece. While this film serves as a fine introduction (the modern elements may intrigue new audiences to the story), it pales in comparison to the 1994 version with Winona Ryder.

As something of a Little Women 'connoisseur' I expected to dislike this film and was pleasantly surprised by how satisfying the adaptation was.

No it's *not* exactly like Alcott's novel...but unlike many 'updated' classics it doesn't feel forced.

Zero stars. Unwatchable. "Updated" from Civil War era to modern times. Doesn't work.
