I would have liked the last last two Bosch books a lot more if the author paired Harry with one of his old female partners such as Kiz Ryder or Lucia Soto. They were both interesting and likeable. Ballard is neither.

THE NIGHT FIRE is another successful novel from Michael Connelly. We have Bosch, Ballard and several cameo appearances with Micky Haller. All three of Connelly's best characters in one novel with multiple crimes, and lots of creative twists and turns. Awesome read.

This book was fun because of the presence of 3 series protagonists: Harry Bosch, Renee Ballard, and Mickey Haller!! I have been reading the Bosch books for almost 30 years, so he is my favorite character, but Ballard is a very interesting new addition. Highly recommend the series. Kristi & Abby Tabby

I have read everything on the character Harry Bosch. I will continue to read all Harry Bosch novels. The good and the not so good.... From the ending, it looks like Harry and Renee will team-up again. Michael Connelly is on my list of favourite authors.

I love this author's work. Pairing fan favorite Harry Bosch with Renee Ballard is genius--I have enjoyed the books featuring them together. Some of the plot lines towards the end of the book seemed forced to me--a departure for Mr. Connelly who is normally pitch-perfect on both plot and character development. It's still better than most other mysteries out there.

It started off good...but the ending was flat...a bit disappointed...

I have been a huge fan of Michael Connelly for five years, and in that time I think I've read nearly everything he has written: Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller, Jack McEvoy, Terry McCaleb, and now Renee Ballard. I. Love. Them. All.

I love how Ballard is on board with Bosch's “everybody matters or nobody matters” code of honor. In The Night Fire, the bond between Bosch and Ballard tightens as they become even more of a formidable investigative team. It was fun seeing Haller again, too, although Bosch makes even more enemies when he helps Haller get a client off, adamant the cops got it wrong. Bosch then starts his own investigation, angering some high profile players and suspects. Like Bosch working on his own case, Ballard works on her own, as well. They sort of weaved in and out of each other's cases, which was interesting. I never found myself wanting to rush through Renee’s pages to get back to Bosch's. As far as I'm concerned, Ballard is definitely in the running for Harry’s best partner!

I have to say, however, it worries me that Bosch is nearly 70 years of age. It will break my heart if he ever stops working!
