A hit man for an Irish gang in the Depression-era Midwest, hit man Michael Sullivan is known to friends and enemies alike as the Angel of Death. Uncompromising in his work, Sullivan is just as devoted to his private life as an upstanding husband and father of two young boys. But when those worlds collide, taking the lives of his wife and younger son, Sullivan and his surviving son, Michael Jr. leave their sedate home life behind and embark on a startling journey of revenge and self-discovery.

Excellent movie, great acting, young Michael is amazing and Tom Hanks is wonderful as always. Very violent movie. It takes place in 1931, the stage sets are awesome, I love all the vintage cars, great costuming. Complex story about father and son loyalty, gangster family loyalty and simply taking what they believe is theirs to take. I would like to watch this movie a second time.

This movie is incredible. Tom Hanks is outstanding, and I think this film is totally underrated, especially because you don't often get to see a film about father-son loyalty. Easily in my top 10 favorite films of all time, especially with a stellar cast and a gorgeously sorrowful score.

Thank you! - Tom - for playing a role like this, even if you never do again.

I guess this is a movie Tom Hanks and Paul Newman made to show they are "AcTors " not just big Hollywood stars.

The story translates well from graphic novel to film. Nicely done.

Great cast (Paul Newman, Tom Hanks, Jude Law, Stan Tucci and Daniel Craig). Very good storyline of a father, mob enforcer, set out to avenge the death of his wife and youngest child... all while trying to protect his only living son. Very well made.

This is a 2002 American crime thriller film directed by Sam Mendes.
The plot takes place in 1931, during the Great Depression, following a mob enforcer and his son as they seek vengeance against a mobster who murdered the rest of their family.
The film explores several themes, including the consequence of violence and father-son relationships.
It is such a hard-boiled thriller with breath-taking enforcing actions that you'll be certainly glued to the screen.
Although most of the numerous acts of violence are committed off-screen, the effects are so great that you could feel the actual speed of violence in the real world.
The film focuses not on the direct victims of the perpetuated violence, but the impact of violence on the perpetrators.
In any case, it is a gripping, thrilling and fascinating action movie.
