A good adaptation. Not recommended for children, on account of some, ahem, material.

A vain attempt to straighten out Oscar. Or at least tidy him up a bit. This adaptation takes out the obvious machinations of the play, and presents us with an extremely pallid "real" version. Why? The very definition of Wilde's art was in its artifice. That said, there are some saving graces. A delightfully witchy Julianne Moore (who keeps proving she can do ANYTHING). A lovely Cate Blanchett taking a cypher of a character and making you believe. But other eyebrows were way too arched. And why did I get the distinct impression that the cameraman was having a torrid affair with Rupert Everett?

“An Ideal Husband”:5; I quite dislike like English plays generally, and one's about their aristocracy-mingled-politics, while titillatingly complex and conniving, also disturbing in misplaced human values. I had to watch this one twice, and probably will again; I liked it so much. The droll wit worked, the writing was good, the characters were sturdy and the acting – all around – clarified human foibles with delight and sentiment. The heroes and heroines were shining, even when tarnished, but the villain... not someone one would want to know, but as she rode off – like the “lone-ranger”- one rather began to miss her.

I enjoyed this very much. Good for kids & adults. Well presented. Funny.
