Comment
Add a CommentThere are two books you need if you are a beginning knitter. One is Elizabeth Zimmermann's "Knitting Without Tears", which is available at SFPL. The other is "Knitting in Plain English". Once you are an experienced knitter, you will go back to these books time and again.
There are no fancy photographs of knitted clothes that show the reader nothing about how fit or construction. There are simple pictures showing how to create a particular stitch. There are no patterns to follow without understanding. Instead, there is plain and simple information about how to do the various stitches to follow a pattern while knowing what you are doing. There is enough information to learn how to fit a pattern, or even make your own.
Seriously, this is the book you are looking for.
This is one of those books that isn't very 'sexy' (elaborately styled photographs, fancy titles, lots of design, etc.) but it's an excellent resource. Righetti demystifies knitting and has excellent tips written in non-alienating language.
Honestly, this is the best knitting book I've ever encountered. I'm not an inveterate or constant knitter, but I can say that the few complicated projects that I've done could not have been done without this book. The title is completely descriptive.
