Richard Burton as David Campbell: He's dead, I'm wounded, and you're lost. I guess it's always like that in war.

An outstanding cast of iconic stars. I am so grateful for the men and women who sacrificed their lives for my liberties. The more I learn about our history the more gratitude I have. Make sure you watch the Special Features (Disc 3) to hear the obstacles overcome to make the film and interviews with the soldiers who were there and what they think of the film.

The best epic war movie, except for "Lawrence of Arabia," and "The Bridge on the River Kwai." It should come as no surprise that a movie titled "The Longest Day" is a long movie, but not nearly as long as it was for the guys who were there. Think how long it was for Captain During, you'll notice his boots were on the wrong feet all day. The Observer says, check it out. And one other thing, about the cast list above, "Walter WOTTITZ?" You gotta be kidding me!
Longest Day & longest movie. I didn't even try to watch the 2nd disc. Was great to see some of the old stars of the day & future careers they had. Some surprises: Sal Mineo, Paul Anka, Red Buttons, Robert Wagner & a very young Sean Connery to name a few. Interesting but way too long
Super producer Daryl F. Zanuck brings together dozens of stars and multiple directors to tell the epic story of D-Day. There are multiple storylines, the drawback of which no actor is in it for very long, even big stars like John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, and a pre-Bond Sean Connery. As I was reading the credits, I was like, "Wait, Paul Anka was in this? And Sal Mineo? And Arletty?!" Despite being older, the battle sequences are still impressive, if not as graphically intense as "Saving Private Ryan." It does try to tell the story from multiple perspectives (American, English, German, French), which is somewhat unique. It's uneven, but it is, of course, a sweeping, compelling story.
One of the greatest war movies on world war 2 ever made. I rate this to those who don't mind cussing, blood, and lots of guns, gunfire, and death
This is a 1962 epic war drama based on Cornelius Ryan's book "The Longest Day (1959)."
The film depicts the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944, during World War II.
It was directed by Ken Annakin (British and French exteriors), Andrew Marton (American exteriors), and Bernhard Wicki (German scenes).
Although it is based on the book, this film appears like an action-packed documentary without glorified episodes.
Anyone with an interest in learning about the relatively minor role played by Britain and the US in the war against Germany will probably learn a lot from this movie about the Normandy invasion. It was done in 1962 when all the major actors at least remembered the actual event. The movie is almost a study in big name actors of the mid-20th Century in addition to being a middling protrayal of a smaller piece of the war than Americans and Brits care to admit.
This is one of the BEST depictions of the D-Day Invasion. The details of the English, Canadian, French & German sides to the whole day's battle. A very good account of the History of WWII.
