Meet Jake Doyle, rogue, charmer, drinker, brawler, emotionally immature and unavailable. He's a new breed of private investigator, cracking cases and the occasional head. His hometown, St. John's, Newfoundland, is changing in a big way, transforming from a small seaport to a booming oil town, and where there's cash, there's trash, and lots of it. With his father/partner in crime solving, Malachy Doyle, by his side, Jake is ready to take on whatever mystery turns up on the Doyle doorstep.

This is a decent Canadian series, but it’s not a stellar Canadian series. It’s certainly no Being Erica. Alan Hawco is very charming and I like that it has a definable Canadian vibe to it, but there is a hint of low rent about it. Charmingly low rent, but low rent all the same. I find some of the writing is overly dumbed down – sort of “Gee, let’s go do this right now because of so and so.” Don’t explain, just show us. Have faith that your audience will be able to follow along and figure it out. The other detractor is Krystin Pellerin. Jeez that woman is dead behind the eyes.

Newfoundland looks enticing in this series.

A great TV show that brings drama and comedy to the heart of Canadian viewers. As an added bonus it takes place in St.John's Newfoundland, a place were very few tv shows have been shot.
