"On the night you were born, the moon smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered 'Life will never be the same.'" ILLUSTRATIONS: The pictures are paintings that are at times a little bit abstract with music notes raining down and a moon with a face looking down. They have a poetic and lyrical quality that follows the text. THE GOOD: This book is based on the Bible verse in Psalms: For you are fearfully and wonderfully made. It is meant to celebrate a new life and the fact that every life is unique and like no other. And yes, I believe all of creation (such as the polar bear's dancing) celebrate with the creation of each new life as this is a way of praising God for his amazing work. Some reviewers have said this book can lead to making a child believe they are the center of the universe, but I disagree. This book talks about a child's uniqueness, not that they are better than anyone else (For never before has the world...known a you, my friend..."). And doesn't every child want to know they are special, unique, and loved just for being who they are? THE NOT AS GOOD: Because the pictures are somewhat abstract, they may not hold the interest of the 2-4 age range. RECOMMENDED AGE RANGE: Age 0-4. This book can be read to the 0-2 age range during cuddle time. What a wonderful way to convey love to your child even before he/she fully understands the words.
