I don’t know how I’ll feel about this in a month or two, but as of right now, this was an amazing read. A thrilling start to a six book series, Falling Kingdoms combines magic, war, and the fight for power in a stunning character-driven novel. The land of Mytica is divided into three sectors: Limeros, Paelsia and Auranos. When Princess Cleiona witnesses her childhood friend murder a wine-maker’s son, it sets the spark for a flame that will catch all of Mytica, and end in war. Already angry at the standards of life, when compared to the other parts of Mytica, Paelisians take this as an opportunity for vengeance. Jason will do anything to avenge his brother, who died at the hand of the noble Aron. In the cold, frost covered land of Limeros, we meet Prince Magnus Damora, a morally gray character who struggles with forbidden love and his own cold nature. The stakes grow higher and higher as Jason bands together an army, Cleo sets off to find a cure for her ill sister, and Magnus falls deeper into the chasm of his father’s evil. Rating 5/5 @jewelreader of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library Falling Kingdoms written by Morgan Rhodes is one of the best fantasy genre novels I have read. If you are interested in the whole princess and prince idea but with the idea of corrupt kingdoms, then I highly suggest you read this book. First of all, her characters are unique and different, especially her main character, Cleo, a princess who will fight for what she wants and is not afraid to break a nail. They are not your typical characters that everyone in the book seems to admire and care about. Secondly, the plot is amazing. There are so many things going on which makes the book very unpredictable. Throughout the book I was constantly wondering what was going to happen and I was always on the edge of my seat. Throughout all of this there were certain things I did not like. Even with its interesting plot there were few moments where the story dragged on to a point where it was unnecessary. But in the end I enjoyed this story very much and I cannot wait to read the second one, Rebel Spring. Overall out of five stars I give it a four. - @Aweesha_Says of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
