This is beautifully written, very atmospheric. Some elements remind me of Alice Sebold's "Lovely Bones." It is based on the true-life murders of two women who were taken in by a con man who promised marriage and instead killed the women (and one woman's three children as well) for their assets, but four of the pivotal characters are fictional. The book is interspersed with photos and actual newspaper coverage of the crimes and the trial.
