At first I was entertained by this obvious throwback to Agatha Christie (the author has previously translated 14 AC novels into Icelandic): multiple suspects, red herrings and plot twists. But about halfway through the endless character backstories began to blend together and slowed the pacing considerably, detracting from the much stronger story of a novice policeman in over his head as he tries to solve a murder, adjust to a new community and navigate a complicated personal life. The all-but inevitable tv adaptation will hopefully have better pacing. I'm not sure if I will continue reading the series.
