First, I was not expecting to enjoy the book so much after reading the first book in the series. This story was a definite upgrade. I kept in mind that the story was obviously written for middle schoolers and is further than what I expected. Hedlund’s second installment in her nobility series promises the thrills of the medieval with dashing knights, rich noblemen and villans.. all this of course swirled together with a touching romance of ‘true love and sacrifice’..yeah, yeah.. The heroine: a beautiful “robin hood- esque” warrior who was passionate about serving , meets her equal: a charming Knight with equal passion, sensitivity, and strong devotion. I liked the characters well enough. I thought Sir Collin character was appropriate , respectful, and basically all the dreamy things that exists in a perfect story book. I was not thoroughly persuaded on their romance development since they became so “deeply drawn” in like three days. However, I was convinced of the chemistry and attraction between them. The story albeit laced with dialogue that was at times over charged with sap and trite rebuttals, proved to still be a enjoyable read.
