This is a unique story, based on fact, from World War II. It is the story of British civilians recruited by Special Operations Executive, a department created to cause havoc through sabotage and subversion, basically to divert and confuse the enemy while greater events are transpiring. The unique part is that these civilians are women - chosen to infiltrate French society and work as agents, couriers, radio operators. I enjoyed the slow revealing of the stories as Grace, in postwar New York, finds photos that cause her to investigate this story from the war. The characters are fleshed out enough to make them interesting - families, lovers, jobs - but it is the cool situation of having these young women fight for their country, in a very special and secret way. Enjoyable.
