A dishy read about old-Hollywood. A fictional film studio (think of an MGM, Warner Brothers, Columbia type) is chock filled with varying personalities all vying for power, money, and maybe a little peace on the side. Set during WWII, former actress Edie O'Dare tries her hand at writing a gossip column when her contract at the film studio is terminated. Events at a Hollywood party trigger Edie's burgeoning career and set her on a path that will follow her for decades.A dishy read about old-Hollywood. Think the Bible has no place in modern society - think again. Several biblical women are featured and paired with a current fictional counterpart that remind us of the less than stellar parts of our nature.

Lauren Weisberger (author of 'Devil Wears Prada') tackles privilege, family dynamics, and competition through sisters Peyton and Skye. Uber-successful Peyton is a television news anchor who's picture-perfect life comes crumbling down when a sizable donation to a university is uncovered and jeopardizes her daughter Max's future. How a renowned newsmaker doesn't view a 'sizable donation' as a bribe is still a mystery for me, and her conclusion while satisfying, is rushed and leaves portions unexplained. Sister Skye flies under the radar as a mother and champion for underprivileged youth with her school for girls. The sisters are forced to reckon with years of resentment when Peyton's deeds come to light. Lacking the sparkle and froth of 'Prada', the book hits a traditional route path, and while not terrible, is not overly memorable either.Lauren Weisberger (author of 'Devil Wears Prada') tackles privilege, family dynamics, and competition through sisters Peyton and Skye. Feeling a little down lately? Try a little reverse-psychology with Grumpy Cat (not the cat's original intent, or is it?) in order to lighten the mood.

My first Melody Carlson book, found through a booklist through the Olathe Public Library, this contemporary Christian fiction book hits very similar notes to a traditional romance novel (without all of the intimacy).

While working the front desk at the library, I stumbled upon this title in the 'Talking Books' section and only saw the back cover. It had me at 'Snow White the Musical'. One aspiring thespian, Tameika has a song in her heart, stories in her mind, and a dream in her feet. A natural performer, she loves all audiences (both stuffed and unstuffed). But when whispers around the school production of 'Snow White the Musical' make Tameika's ears burn, she must decide whether or not she is 'just enough of all the right stuff'. Celebrating uniqueness, determination, and a joy, this book is a true delight. While working the front desk at the library, I stumbled upon this title in the 'Talking Books' section and only saw the back cover.
